bKash Provides 35,000 Books to Bishwo Shahitto Kendro Supporting ‘Book Reading’ Program

bKash Limited, the leading Mobile Financial Service provider in the country provides around 35,000 books to Bishwo Shahitto Kendro facilitating its ‘Nationwide Enrichment (Book Reading) Program’ for students. As the first of the initiatives of this year, the book reading program has been launched today by Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in association with bKash at the BIAM Model School and College at New Eskaton in the city. The program will gradually be launched at different other schools.

Around 30,000 students from class VI to X of 400 schools are expected to read the books provided by bKash this year.  Under the program, each student will get an opportunity to read 12 to 16 books round the year.  bKash has been associated with the initiatives since 2014 and provided around 34,000 and 30,000 books in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Nurul Islam, Director General of BIAM Foundation inaugurated the book reading program as the Chief Guest while Kamal Quadir, Chief Executive Officer of bKash handed over the books to Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Founder Chairman and Chief Executive of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro.

Among others, Major General Sheikh Md Monirul Islam (retd), Chief External & Corporate Affairs Officer of bKash, Sharif Mohammad Masud, Director of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro and Professor Kolyanmoy Sarkar, principal of BIAM Model School and College were present at the program.

The focus is to bring the unbanked population into formal financial activities to help the economy of Bangladesh at large. Bishwo Shahitto Kendro has been carrying out various outreach programs for school and college students in the last 37 years with a dream of creating enlightened individuals. The nationwide enrichment program (Book Reading) is the most prominent program of the organisation in this regard. Currently, the book reading program covers around 200,000 students of 2,000 educational institutions across the country.
